The Animal Rescue Association was established in 2011 in Ankara. The aim of the association is to protect animal rights within the framework of legal legislation and to eliminate all kinds of animal grievances. In this context, the Animal Rescue Association operates in cooperation with municipalities and relevant public institutions and organizations.

The Animal Rescue Association, which works to ensure that stray and distressed animals are kept alive under appropriate conditions and to end their grievances, mainly by:
• establishing a civil society pressure mechanism to defend the rights granted to all animals under the Animal Protection Law No. 5199 and for the public and legal authorities to take necessary actions when rights violations are committed;
• keeping the population of stray cats and dogs living on the streets under control by neutering, spaying, vaccinating, and leaving them in their places, thus preventing their grievances;
• aiming to provide treatment, rehabilitation, and nesting of animals that are sick, injured, and in need of care and emergency medical attention/treatment when subjected to violence.

The activities of the association take place in two main areas. One of them is the search for a rights-based solution, and the other is the attempt to eliminate animal grievances. Ensuring the realization of animal rights within the scope of laws and strengthening the awareness of the rights of society towards animals constitute one of its fields of activity, and in this direction, efforts are made to raise the awareness of people who reach out to Animal Rescue about rights, practices, and solutions. The Animal Rescue contact number has been expanded so that it can be accessed on the first call, especially using the internet. For this reason, it can be said that the contact number of the association is the most frequently called number in Turkey in case of an emergency after Alo 153.

Preventing all kinds of violence and cruelty towards animals, protecting the right to life, caring for animals in appropriate conditions, rescuing animals in distress, ensuring their treatment and sterilization, and making sure that suitable people are chosen to adopt constitute the most active field of activity of the association.

In this context, the association provides access to animals in the most difficult situations and in need of rescue, followed by treatment, sterilization, search for homes, and (if suitable homes cannot be found), providing a rehabilitation center. Rescue activities, which started before the association, continued actively with the establishment of the Animal Rescue Association, and thousands of victims have been reached since its establishment (some of the rescued pets, with their photos, are listed below).

The Animal Rescue Association Rehabilitation Center was established on vacant land leased from the Çankaya Municipality and is located within the borders of Çankaya Municipality in Dodurga District. It operates without any help from any institution or organization and has been sheltering 455 dogs here as of January 2019 and provides rehabilitation opportunities at the same time. In addition, the cats rescued are treated in clinics. Almost all the dogs in the rehabilitation center are sick, old, and/or disabled, and are severely injured when they are hit by a car on the highway. We are informed when they are injured and/or abandoned on the street by their owners, and we rescue them immediately. The center does not only shelter (three-legged, paralyzed, visually and hearing impaired) dogs but also provides non-clinical treatment and rehabilitation for these animals. The shelters accommodate up to three dogs in 5x6 meter wire cages or huts, with food bowls for each dog.

At least 350 packages of dry dog food per month are consumed. A staff member who is constantly on duty at the center attends to the food and water needs of all dogs and cleans the entire area.

Considering all its activities mentioned above, the Animal Rescue Association relies on the support of its volunteers and members without any support from any private institution.

We are proud to be able to express the number of animals rescued, treated, and adopted by the members of the Animal Rescue Association.
